But with the country so vast and little time available, planning a trip to Spain is far from easy. That’s why I created this perfect 7-day itinerary in Spain for you to make the most of your time.

Whether you’re a foodie craving authentic tapas, an art enthusiast eager to visit the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, or a history lover, this itinerary promises a week-long extravaganza.

Ready? I can’t wait to tell you everything you need to know about this itinerary and much more, at the end of this guide!

7-day Itinerary in Spain

Let’s dive into this 7-day itinerary in Spain! This journey is designed to give you a taste of Spain’s rich culture, amazing food, and incredible architecture, such as Gaudi’s work.

I suggest starting your trip in Madrid, as you’ll be centrally located for easy access to Barcelona on day 3.

Day 1: Madrid

Start your 7 days in Spain exploring the vibrant Spanish capital. Begin early and visit some of the famous attractions like:

  • Plaza Mayor
  • Parque El Retiro
  • Royal Palace
  • Stroll along Gran Vía

Personally, I recommend starting the day early at Plaza Mayor, taking pictures for your Insta feed, and then joining a Segway tour, which is a cool way to explore the area.

For lunch, stay around Plaza Mayor and have a delicious meal at El MiniBAR or Los Galayos, 2 of the best restaurants in the area. Needless to say, in terms of food, this is the best start for your itinerary in Spain!

In the afternoon, I suggest you get the Museum Card and visit the Prado National Museum and Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, which are must-visit.

After a busy day of sightseeing, head out for a delicious dinner and drinks at the lively tapas bars in the city.

Planning for a night out? Make sure to go to Planet Club, the place to be after midnight, and the cocktails are cheap too! But don’t overdo it, as day 2 will be busy!

Best things to do in Madrid

  • Royal Palace
  • Experience Gran Via
  • Feel the energy of Plaza Mayor
  • Taste Spanish cuisine at San Miguel Market
  • Enjoy the view from the Teleférico cable car

Day 2: Explore Madrid + Half-day trip to Segovia

Start the day with a visit to one of Madrid’s most iconic landmarks, the Royal Palace. Take a tour or simply admire its beauty from outside before heading back into the city.

Then why not go shopping for souvenirs or clothes at Gran Via, where one of the largest Primark stores in the world is located!

In the afternoon, you’ll want to take a half-day trip to Segovia, one of the best destinations outside Madrid for a few hours. Of course, don’t forget your camera, as this will be your first introduction to true and authentic Spanish culture.
